We why invested in Atomic Form, physical hardware for the digital world

NFTs are fueling a transformation in the art world as creativity, passion, and technology converge to facilitate a new medium for digital ownership. Now, digital displays are evolving, too. In fact, collections by Christie's, SuperRare, 33NFT and Blockparty were framed using displays by Atomic Form during a recent exhibition, called “The Gateway,” at the world-renowned Art Basel show in Miami.

Atomic Form is a full stack solution for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital media, bridging the physical and digital worlds together through on-chain verification, discovery, organization, and display. The company officially debuted its Wave display module during the Art Basel show. The Wave, a CES 2022 Innovation Awards honoree, enables NFT owners to seamlessly verify asset ownership and display digital artwork, pulling metadata directly from the respective host blockchain.

We participated in Atomic Form’s seed investment round with participation from Sino Global Capital, Wave Financial, Mechanism Capital, Animoca Brands, ThankYouX, JN Silva, Duncan Cock Foster, Brendan Dawes, ParallelNFT, and other investors. We were impressed with Atomic Form’s solution for NFTs and digital media, while also being intrigued by the company’s vision for a broader web3 gateway.

The Wave display technology developed by Atomic Form also fills the need for post-purchase infrastructure to support the display of NFTs. Atomic Form’s software layer will incorporate any blockchain-based content into a software layer that interfaces with its plug-and-play hardware display solutions. This enables users to aggregate and organize their NFTs, and to discover new artists and communities.

In addition to its digital frame, Atomic Form also has developed a portable device for integrating its software with any display mechanism. The Photon is a pocket-sized device that can serve as a permissioned display and verification layer It can be used to manage and display NFTs, blockchain-based gaming assets, token-based content, and other web3 primitives – all while actively syncing with the respective blockchains.

Of course, one of the key reasons for our investment in Atomic Form is its team. Garrette Furo, co-founder, has 10 years of experience in the crypto industry. He has filed publicly traded bitcoin products, developed custom mining hardware, supervised development of public distributed networks, and spent five years in mechanism design for various blockchains and web3 applications. Isabelle Kitze, co-founder, has five years of experience in the blockchain space as a journalist and member of BlockFi’s marketing team. She has a background in fine art and product design, and oversaw the development of Atomic Form’s Wave.

We believe Atomic Form has developed NFT display solutions that will be a “must-have” for NFT owners. Beyond the immediate display needs, The company is also building a web3 content management hub for any digital device. Atomic Form provides a bridge between in real life (IRL) and NFTs, and may just have the building blocks for a web3 operating system.
